Furnishing fresh starts for youth aging out of foster care

HomeStart collects gently used furniture and household items from our community and helps young people in Berks County furnish their first home as they leave the foster care system on their own.

How It Works

1

You Donate

Tell us what you have. We review every submission and let you know if it's something we can use before you bring it in.

2

We Store It

Accepted items are dropped off at our warehouse during a scheduled window, ready for a young person who needs them.

3

A Youth Shops

Working with Berks County caseworkers, a young person aging out of foster care visits our warehouse to pick out what they need for their new home.

About HomeStart

Why This Matters

Every year, young people in Berks County age out of foster care and move into independence — often without the basic furniture and household items most of us take for granted. HomeStart exists to close that gap, one donated item at a time.

Community Partnership

HomeStart works with local partners — including Keystone Family Alliance (KeyFam) — to connect with Berks County caseworkers who support youth aging out of foster care, so donated items reach the young people who need them most.
